Biography:

I’ve been in the industry for roughly 20 years,  my passion for building things and my love for music was a big part of why I got into car audio. In this industry you have to be fearless, failing and starting over on a project is part of what makes you a great installer. I’ve been fortunate enough to have worked alongside some great builders and been lucky enough to have worked on some mind-numbing project builds.

I was really humbled by the work we did when Covid-19 broke out in Canada. Our team at Certified Autosound worked many late nights to help build and donate thousands of face shields and ear savers to hospitals and fire departments in need of PPE.  It made our entire team at Certified feel like we were part of something  bigger and doing our part to support our fellow Canadians.

The opportunity do something I’m passionate about and something that challenges me every day is truly a blessing. I’m also blessed with an amazing family, my wife and I have raised an incredible daughter that makes us proud everyday.

A personal highlight was getting to build two complete systems for Long Beach KnowledgeFest 2019 and another project vehicle for Dallas KnowledgeFest 2019.

When I look back on some of my experiences in this industry, I’m definitely proud about being nominated Top 12 Installer three years running. 2017, 2018, 2019 was very humbling. It was pretty special being chosen two years in row 2018 & 2019 to be on the MSC Dream Team. I was especially honoured to have been a part of  the Mobile Solutions Training build team at the B&B Expo.  Lastly, I was excited and was looking forward to being part of the fabrication classes at the CMA Expo this past April – unfortunately it was cancelled due to Covid-19.

Interview:

Q: What made you get into car audio as an installer?

A: The pure love for loud music as a kid

Q: Favourite music/artists?

A: A little bit of everything

Q: Have you ever competed/judged at dbDrag or IASCA events?

A: I competed briefly at a young age, I was also part of the Haney Sewing & Sound SPL team as a young kid when they built their SPL Nissan Micra with all Rockford products.

Q: Where did you go for your internship?

A: I showed up one day at Haney Sewing & Sound and met the head tech there Craig Davey and we instantly became good friends. I hung around the shop learning everything I could for about 2 years.. So, he gave me a reference and I went on to get a job at Beam Riders in Langley, BC.

Q: List the history of shops you worked at:

A: Beam Riders for about a year and a half then to Alterations for about a year then to Haney Sewing & Sound (after my buddy Craig Davey left to go to another shop) I took over for him there for 6-7 years. Then I went to Visions Electronics and I was there for 10-11 years and now I’m currently at Certified Autosound & Security and as of September 1st, it will be 3 years since I’ve joined the team here.

Q: Are there other installers/fabricators that inspire you?

A: I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside some amazing guys like JT Torres, Tom Miller, Gary Bell, Chris Yato, Bryan Schmidt and many others but those guys right there changed my life and thought process on what we do and how we do it. Working with those guys on special projects or being an instructor at Mobile Solutions really changed things for me. Being in class and learning from them is great but working side by side on a special build you can’t even understand the amount of info you can possibly take in from them when that happens. There are many others that I have to mention that inspire me from the work they do. Guys like Matt Schaeffer, Jeremy Carlson, Jeremy Katz, the guys at Spokane Audio, the guys at Music Car, MSC Canada…I can go on and on but I look up to all these guys and the crazy things they are producing on a daily inspire me to the fullest.

Q: Is there a specific brand of amps/speakers that you really like working with and why?

A: The main brands I like working with are the Audiotec-Fisher line of products and also the Blam line. Reasons for being so loyal to these brands are that in my opinion, not only are they the best products on the market hands down, but the support I receive from MSC our Canadian distributor is untouchable….and the products sound absolutely incredible and simply do not break.  The user friendly processor interface is a thing of beauty for the Helix products as well.
