Audio Dezigns began with me realizing that running other people’s stores in Edmonton was not working out for me. Maybe I’m just a bad employee! I had little money saved when I moved to Fort McMurray in 1997 and I lived in my store for a year until I could afford my own place.
I was a one man show doing only installs, but quickly grew and started selling car audio too. It was a good time to be in business and I was able to grow and eventually have 11 employees and purchase my own building.
We really love custom car audio and home theater, but have added lots of other revenue avenues as things slowed down. We added security, commercial audio, conference systems, emergency lighting, leather seats, and pretty much all 12 volt accessories.
It’s been a roller coaster for sure as the oil boom hit and then crashed. Then the fire in 2016 put us out of the city for over a month and that took several months before business started coming back again. Finally, we flooded this spring with over 5 feet of water in our building, that was a total wipeout and all this while Covid was just starting up. Another dip in the roller coaster of business.
We didn’t let it get us down and we rebuilt the store and are doing great again thanks to family, friends, staff, and amazing suppliers helping us out. Gemsen was quick to act and offer their support with their partners from JL Audio, Kicker, Audio Control, and Dynamat who came to the rescue and helped us out considerably with sound boards and gear to go in them. What an amazing industry, we are lucky to be in!! Our new showrooms are bigger and better than before and we increased the size of our wood room and install bays as we rebuilt.
I made one of my employees Cole Johnson who has been with me for 7 years a partner and we are moving forward in this new market with the confidence that we will be successful as we have an amazing team and amazing suppliers to stand behind us.
